Some historians consider that the crusader Robert de Bri had brought the oil-bearing rose in Europe from Persia, present-day Syria between 1254 and 1276. The name of the oil-bearing rose comes from Damascus, the capital of Syria.
According to some other legends and traditions, romans have brought the oil-bearing rose in England,  where Henry VIII's physicist gave him an oil-bearing rose as a gift in 1540.
